Uninsured Motorist Bodily Injury Protection |
If you have had an accident caused by a driver who doesn't have auto insurance or a hit-and-run driver, uninsured motorist bodily injury coverage will pay for injuries (both bodily and personal), damages or death. These include your own losses, traumas and death and those of the passengers of your car. If this option is included in your auto insurance policy your insurer will have to cover all medical costs (within the limits of your policy) connected with an accident where an uninsured motorist is guilty.
How UMBI Coverage Works
Theoretically, in a traffic accident the one who caused it must pay for all damages. That means his auto insurance company. And what if he is not insured? What should you do to feel secure in such situations? The answer is you should buy uninsured motorist bodily injury coverage. So, how it really works? If you have an uninsured motorist bodily injury coverage policy and get into an accident through the fault of an uninsured driver, your policy will protect you, other drivers covered by your policy, for example your family members living with you, the passengers of your car. And of course, your policy determines the limits of compensation for each person and accident. If these limits are 50/100 it means that the policy reimburses up to $50 thousand per each person and $100 thousand per incident. And imagine that the passengers of your car are injured in such accident and they do not have health insurance, or treatment costs are higher than the limit specified in their health insurance policy. That means that you, the driver, is responsible for payment of these expenses. And they are also covered by a UMBI policy, if you have it, of course.
